Why take the tour?
If you’ve ever been on a house or garden tour, you’ll already know the answers.
Any tour of this type gives you the rare privilege of visiting exceptional properties that are lovingly tended by people who devote themselves to their magnificent homes and gardens. You needn’t have a passion for gardening or interior design to enjoy a day admiring the talents and hard work of those who do.
Unlike on many more urban tours, on our garden and house tour you’ll sometimes travel along limestone farm roads to homes with spectacular views of the countryside and the magnificent Kaipara Harbour.
Each of the 20 properties is different – they range from a sub-tropical paradise that’s featured in magazines to rambling gardens that nest alongside historic homes and ancient trees – and everything in between. Several gardens spring surprises: that pocket handkerchief garden you thought was all tidy box hedges opens into an orchard, a kitchen garden decorated with quirky follies links to a path that will take you to a jetty on an upper reach of the harbour.
Some properties will feel worth the entry fee all on their own – and while a particular garden might thrill you the most, it may be another that inspires your friend. They are all there for you to enjoy at your own pace – on just one day or both Saturday and Sunday. We hope you will get together with friends, family, members of your garden or sports club, or your significant other and have a fabulous time.
