There are all sorts of ways that you can help people affected by dementia in Northland. Volunteering for Alzheimers Northland is great for us but it can also be good for you too. People volunteer for lots of different reasons whether it is to meet new people, socialise or help people through the hardest of times, whatever your reason we would love you to lend us your skills.
Urgently needed: Day Programme helpers
We need extra hands on help in our day programmes in Paihia and Whangarei. Extra help will enable us to accept more people to our programmes, a much needed services for both the person with dementia and their carer. Our day programmes provide stimulating and social environments for people living in Northland to help keep our clients active and happy. They also provide a crucial amount of respite for their carers at home. Volunteer help allows staff to remain on floor working with clients and covers staff lunch breaks.
Volunteers at our day programme can help in anyway they feel comfortable such as…
– Helping out over the lunch period including prepping/heating lunch for clients, setting tables, serving dishes.
– Hands on help supporting staff working with clients to do various activities.
– One on one activities with clients.
