Marion’s Story

Marion became her Mum’s full time carer when she was diagnosed with dementia. Marion shares her story…

Being a primary carer to the closest member of my family was tough, it really got me down. It was a safe haven to find that Alzheimers Northland support group existed. I was at the end of my rope. I just needed someone to talk to and Maria and Pip understood. It was a huge relief to me to meet people who were dealing with the same things that I was dealing with, going through the same situations and emotions. It felt like I was amongst friends.

I really needed the comfort of knowing that other people understood. Belonging to the group helped me so much, and that’s why I still come to the group after Mum died, I hope that I can help someone who is feeling as crappy as I felt back then.
