Thank you for bearing with us while we work out the in’s and out’s of the Traffic Light setting and how that looks for our services here at Alzheimers Northland. As always, our first priority must be keeping our whānau safe whilst being able to reach out and offer our support to everyone living with dementia regardless of their beliefs. That said, the government has laid out very clear parameters within which we must operate in order to keep our services running. Therefore, please see below for how our services will run firstly for people who are able to show their Vaccine Certificates and secondly for those who do not have a Vaccine Certificate.
It goes without saying if you or the person that you care for feels unwell please stay home. The team is entirely focused on providing support to you and we want to hear from you, whether you have a small query or a big concern, please do get in touch.

I’m sure you will be as delighted as we are to be moving back to Level 2. There’s nothing quite like meeting in person and for people with dementia meeting face to face can be critical for communication and connection.

DAY PROGRAMMES
We are pleased to be able to give carers a well-earned break by opening our Whangarei day programmes. We will also be opening the Paihia programme. Unfortunately, our other public venues will not be able to reopen but we will be doing everything we can to bring our clients from Waipu up to Alz House. We will be in touch for those that attend other day programmes with a view to getting them up and running again as soon as possible.
COMMUNITY SERVICES
The Community Advisors will be able to resume face-to-face visits, following the government guidelines. If you would like to book a visit, please get in touch directly.
SUPPORT GROUPS AND COFFEE GROUPS
The Community Advisors will also be considering how Support and Coffee Groups can resume safely from next week, considering the restrictions within public venues, and they will be in touch directly about these.

Update from 11th October 2021

We have heard today that Northland remains at level three. It’s a tough slog and we know how hard this is for those caring for a loved one at home. Our services have been affected by this latest change. Please see details below.
Once again we want to reiterate that the whole team is here for you, entirely focused on offering you support so phone, email or text, whether you have a small query or a big concern, please do get in touch.
As face masks are now mandatory in public places you may like to consider applying for an exemption if the person that you care for really struggles with face coverings. But as we all know the face masks provide good protection against Covid so the decision is a tough one. You can find all the information about face masks by clicking here

Day programmes:
All our day programmes sites are sadly closed under Level Three restrictions, the team will be in touch to check in with you.

Our Community Advisors will be in touch with anyone they have appointments with to check-in and re-arrange as they will not be able to meet in person. Please use the expert knowledge of our Community Advisors, if you have any queries feel free to call them, we are happy to set up a Zoom if you would like.
Support groups and coffee groups
Our groups are not able to run under level three but if we have any interest we may be able to run zoom groups. The team will be in touch.

Although a lot of our Community Advisors face-to-face services will not be reinstated until Level 1; the team remains working from home for the next few days and will continue to provide support and advice as always. The Community Advisors will be returning to their offices across Northland next week (whilst practising safe distancing at work), so scheduled face-to-face visits can resume; however routine home visits will not be offered at this stage. The Community Advisors will also be considering how Support and Coffee Groups can resume safely from next week, considering the restrictions within public venues, and they will be in touch directly about these.

Update from 2nd September 2021

Another day another announcement… Today brings good news with Northland’s level moving down to level 3. However, for many, Alzheimers Northland included, this does not affect the services that we are able to offer. Our priority is still to ensure we protect our clients and whanau, with this in mind our team will continue to work at home offering support over the phone or zoom. Our support groups and day programmes will remain closed too.
