Family & Whānau Carer Workshop – Online & Free!

Understanding “Challenging Behaviours”

People living with dementia are often seen as having “challenging behaviours”.  In these two sessions we discuss the reasons WHY a person may be reacting with “challenging behaviours”.

Session 1: Monday, 14 July 2025 | 7–8pm
Session 2: Monday, 21 July 2025 | 7–8pm

Outline

What factors can influence behaviours

We will learn what can influence the behaviour of a person living with dementia, and see the world from the person living with dementia's perspective.

What the person living with dementia is trying to tell us

In essence all behaviours are the person with dementia trying to communicate a message or an unmet need.  We will work through a case scenario to try to understand what a person may be telling us, which in turn will help us best support the person.

Our approach and communication

We will discuss our approach and communication strategies to best support a person living with dementia.
